    The client envisioned operating a traditional Hanok-style lodging on a site where two L-shaped Hanok houses were initially planned. After carefully considering the program, site conditions, and operational direction, the proposal shifted toward connecting the two Hanoks closely. This approach aimed to maximize site efficiency while improving ease of operation and maintenance.

    Although the form and roof shape may appear unfamiliar at first, they are not newly invented. Such variations historically existed across regions and functions, but gradually disappeared as rigid standards of what a Hanok should look like became dominant. Through research and archival studies, forgotten elements of traditional Hanok design were rediscovered and reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility.

    The exterior and interior were designed to retain the essence of Hanok while adapting to modern needs. The proportions and spatial warmth of traditional Hanok were respected, while new materials and refined detailing introduced a sense of freshness. Rather than reproducing the past, the design reconfigures traditional logic to suit current lifestyles and functionality.

    The two wings offer distinct spatial experiences through the outdoor scenery. One emphasizes a more traditional ambiance with a nostalgic atmosphere. The other adopts a brighter and more open character that reflects contemporary sensibilities. This contrast allows guests to encounter different moods within the same lodging.

    This project seeks to revive forgotten possibilities of tradition and present a new model of Hanok that connects past and present. It is an architecture that reflects history while moving forward.

    건축주는 해당 대지에 ㄱ자형으로 구성된 한옥 두 채를 지어 한옥 체험형 숙박시설을 운영할 계획을 세웠다. 사업의 방향성과 대지 여건, 프로그램 등을 종합적으로 고려한 결과, 두 채의 한옥을 긴밀히 붙여 구성하는 방안을 제안하였다. 이는 운영과 관리의 효율성을 높이는 동시에 대지 활용도를 극대화하려는 의도가 담겨 있다.

    조금은 낯설게 느껴질 수 있는 이번 한옥의 형태와 지붕 모양은 결코 새로 만들어진 것이 아니다. 과거 다양한 지역과 용도에 따라 존재했던 형태였지만, 현대에 이르러 ‘한옥은 이래야 한다’는 고정된 관념이 생기면서 점차 사라져온 것들이다. 다양한 사례 조사와 자료 분석을 통해 잊혀진 전통의 특징들을 발굴하고, 이를 현대적인 감각으로 재구성하여 설계에 반영하였다.

    내외부 공간은 전통 한옥의 본질적 특성을 현대적으로 해석하여 구성하였다. 외관은 한옥 고유의 비례감과 아늑한 공간감을 유지하면서도, 현대적 재료와 세밀한 디테일을 통해 새로운 감각을 더했다. 공간 구성은 전통 한옥의 짜임새를 존중하되, 각 실의 기능성과 현대적 사용성을 고려하여 재해석하였다.

    두 채의 실은 서로 다른 차경(借景)을 통해 각기 다른 공간적 경험을 제공한다. 하나는 보다 전통적인 한옥의 분위기를 강화하여 과거의 정취를 살렸고, 다른 하나는 현대적 감성을 가미해 밝고 개방적인 분위기를 연출하였다. 이를 통해 이용객들은 같은 숙박시설 내에서도 각기 다른 분위기와 감성을 경험할 수 있도록 하였다.

    이 프로젝트는 잊혀진 전통의 가능성을 현재에 되살리고, 과거와 현재를 잇는 새로운 한옥의 모습을 제시하고자 한다.
